Wild Child Farm - A visit from Ona
Nurturing the Future: A Visit to Wild Child Farm
Nestled in the serene foothills of Oregon’s Coastal Mountain Range, Wild Child Farm is more than just a place where food grows—it’s a beacon of sustainability, community health, agricultural heritage and preservation. During a recent visit to this remarkable farm, we discovered the passion and commitment that drive its founders, Osana and Alva Waterstone, and learned why this farm is an essential partner for our future project Ona in Oregon.
Rooted in Oregon, Growing for the Future
Osana and Alva Waterstone, both born and raised in Oregon, have been farming since 2011. What began as a passion for agriculture has evolved into a lifestyle, one that sees them stewarding seven certified organic acres year-round. Their farm offers a diverse array of fresh products, from fruits and vegetables to flowers and garden seeds, all cultivated with an unwavering commitment to quality.
For the Waterstones, farming is more than just a profession—it’s a way of life. As the parents of three lively children, they embrace the chaos and joy of family life while dedicating themselves to the land. Each day brings new challenges and rewards, and their journey is a testament to the love they have for what they do.
A Commitment to Soil and Seed
At the heart of Wild Child Farm’s mission is a focus on soil regeneration and heirloom seed preservation. Understanding that the future of farming depends on the health of the soil, Osana and Alva have made it their goal to ensure that their land remains fertile for generations to come. Their dedication to soil health is evident in the robust produce they grow—food that not only nourishes the body but also contributes to the well-being of the community.
Moreover, the Waterstones are staunch advocates for agricultural practices that protect biodiversity. They have actively appealed before Congress to block the introduction of GMO varieties and canola farming throughout the Willamette Valley, recognizing the potential risks these practices pose to local ecosystems and traditional farming methods.
Partnering for a Sustainable Future
Our visit to Wild Child Farm left us deeply inspired. The Waterstones’ unwavering commitment to quality, sustainability, and community health aligns perfectly with our vision for our upcoming project in Oregon. We believe that partnering with such a dedicated and passionate farm will enable us to create something truly special—an initiative that not only honours the land but also supports the local community in meaningful ways.
Wild Child Farm is a shining example of how agriculture can be a force for positive change. With their focus on preserving heirloom varieties, regenerating soil health, and advocating for sustainable farming practices, Osana and Alva Waterstone are not just growing food—they’re nurturing a future where farming is done with integrity, respect, and care.
As we look ahead to the collaboration of Ona and Wild Child Farm, we are excited about the possibilities that lie before us. Together, we will continue to sow the seeds of change, ensuring that the values we hold dear—quality, sustainability, and community—are at the heart of everything we do.
